Netflix Launches Its Own Line of Popcorn: A Tasty Twist for Streaming Fans

Netflix, the streaming giant, is venturing beyond the screen to tantalize our taste buds with its new line of ready-to-eat popcorn, “Netflix’s Now Popping.” This collaboration with Popcorn Indiana aims to enhance the streaming experience and extend the Netflix brand into the physical world, offering a unique twist for its fans.

Netflix’s Now Popping offers two enticing flavors: Cult Classic Cheddar Kettle, a savory blend of cheddar cheese and perfectly popped kernels, and Swoonworthy Cinnamon Kettle, a sweet and spicy combination reminiscent of cozy evenings by the fire. These gourmet snacks are priced at $4.49 for an 8-ounce bag. Interestingly, purchasing both flavors costs more than the monthly fee for Netflix’s Basic plan with ads ($6.99/month in the U.S.), making it a clever strategy to introduce the Netflix brand to shoppers while providing a delicious treat for binge-watching sessions.

This isn’t Netflix’s first venture into food. In 2020, the company collaborated with Ben & Jerry’s to create the “Netflix & Chilll’d” ice cream flavor, a blend of peanut butter, sweet-and-salty pretzel swirls, and fudge brownies, which remains popular on store shelves. The popcorn launch continues this trend of creative brand extensions into the culinary world.

Beyond food, Netflix is also expanding its presence in the real world with three movie theaters in New York, Hollywood, and Pacific Palisades, Calif. Additionally, Netflix plans to open massive entertainment, dining, and shopping complexes called “Netflix House” in Dallas and King of Prussia, Pa., each occupying over 100,000 square feet. These moves are part of Netflix’s broader strategy to remain a constant presence in the lives of its audience.

Selling popcorn may not significantly impact Netflix’s bottom line, but it’s more about brand presence and consumer engagement. By making its way into retail outlets, Netflix keeps its brand top-of-mind for consumers. The company aptly notes, “A movie night and popcorn go together like a hot dog and a bun, ice cream and sprinkles, or a beach day and a lounge chair.”

Next time you settle in for a Netflix binge, consider grabbing a bag of Netflix’s Now Popping. It’s the perfect companion for your favorite shows and a testament to the streaming giant’s innovative spirit.
